Baking Bread with Prairie Mill's Owen Petervine

Join us for an afternoon of baking bread with the delightful Owen Petervine, proprietor of Edmonton's own Prairie Mill Bread. Owen will be introducing you to the world of sourdough bread starters with a take home sample of his own starter, and he'll send you home with all the knowledge you need to feed and use your starter on your own too in addition to teaching you to make bread, waffles, and panzanella.

Kids Cook (9-12 years): Fresh Pasta

Drop off your fledgling chef, aged 9-12, to learn to make a simple gourmet supper for your family. In this edition, we'll be teaching your child to make their own pasta dough, then they'll learn how to cut it to make spaghetti, fettucini, or tagliatelle. We'll be making sauces to go with our pasta from scratch: a pesto and an Amatriciana sauce (tomato and pancetta). Turkish Flatbreads with Doreen Prei & Kathryn Joel

Like pizza, flatbreads are the ultimate in comfort food. In this class, however, we're introducing you to flatbreads from Turkey: lahmacun, a lamb and tomato flatbread with cinnamon, cayenne, and cumin and gozleme, a spinach and feta stuffed flatbread. A more exotic, Eastern Mediterranean version of pizza and calzones, this class pushes the conventional envelope, introducing you to a familiar food with an exotic twist.

This summer Get Cooking is moving it's kitchen from Kathryn's Riverbend home to a brand new commercial space at MacEwan University downtown.
