Thailand’s Hidden Culinary Gems with Kathryn Joel & Doreen Prei

Instead of covering classically Thai dishes like Pad Thai and red curry, this class will explore the equally delicious but lesser known Thai dishes. Throughout the class, you'll learn about where to find and how to use the essential Thai ingredients to cook our simple but delicious recipes at home. Master Chef: A Day with Doreen Prei & Kathryn Joel

Do you love cooking and want to know how to cook like a Michelin star chef? CBC Radio columnist Chef Doreen Prei was trained in Michelin star restaurants and together with Chef Kathryn Joel will teach you the tips and tricks of the professional chef’s world. Your day will begin shopping like a chef with Kathryn Joel at Acme Meat Market at 9:00am, from there you’ll got to the Old Strathcona Farmers’ market for fresh produce, then back to Get Cooking to meet Doreen Prei who will expertly guide you through delectable recipes using challenging ingredients. This 9 hour master class will immerse you in the apprentice chef’s journey to culinary excellence teaching the full arsenal of culinary skills.

Indian Seafood with Aditya Raghavan and Doreen Prei

Indian Culinary Expert and Consultant Aditya Raghavan will immerse you in Indian culture and cuisine as he cooks alongside Doreen Prei in this exclusive Indian Seafood class. Aditya’s experience picking up tips, skills, and techniques from Indian housewives and farmers have contributed to his modern interpretation of food found in Indian villages. Connecting people not just with the cuisine, but the ethos of India, Aditya expertly breaks complex concepts down into simpler ideas, taking the time to share the alchemy of Indian cooking. For most people, just learning how to build a curry from scratch is a giant step in the direction of learning Indian food. A lot of time will also be spent on understanding the geography and food culture of India and why certain dishes taste the way they do.

This seafood class will feature shrimp koliwada (an easy fried shrimp recipe from Mumbai); kerala-style fried sardines (or other small fish); clams in a green coconut masala; chettinad fish fry;  odisha raw mango fish curry; and for dessert, bebinca (Goan layered cake).

Baking Bread with Prairie Mill's Owen Petervine

Join us for an afternoon of baking bread with the delightful Owen Petervine, proprietor of Edmonton's own Prairie Mill Bread. Owen will be introducing you to the world of sourdough bread starters with a take home sample of his own starter, and he'll send you home with all the knowledge you need to feed and use your starter on your own too in addition to teaching you to make bread, waffles, and panzanella.
