From Farm to Table: A Market Tour & Cooking Class with Kathryn Joel & Doreen Prei

Join one of our always popular tours of the Downtown Farmers' Market, followed by a class back at Get Cooking including lunch, and a glass or two of wine. You'll meet Kathryn at the market at 10:30 am for an hour of shopping as well as an opportunity to get to know some of our favourite local vendors. Then we'll head back to Get Cooking to meet Doreen and cook up a lovely and locally inspired 3-course lunch.

Vegetarian and gluten free options are available on request.

Class Fee: $105 per person, plus GST. Your Fee Includes: a 1-hour market tour followed by a 2-hour cooking class including lunch with a glass of wine, and a recipe pack to take home.

Join Doreen and Kathryn for a six-course menu of our favourite dishes, finished in our open kitchen and served as a seated dinner. We'll be pulling out all the stops as we create a seasonal menu filled with local inspiration and ingredients. The studio will be set up with 3 communal tables for 8 each, so come with a group of friends or family, or come on your own and make some new friends. As always, we'll be inviting you to get up and join us around our chef's table as we cook. Optional wine pairings as well as wines by the glass or by the bottle will be available on the night.

Cook Like a MasterChef: A Day with Doreen Prei & Kathryn Joel

Do you love the culinary arts, and aspire to cook like a Michelin star chef? Doreen Prei was trained in Michelin star restaurants in Europe and together with cordon bleu trained Kathryn Joel will teach you the tips and tricks of the professional chef’s world. Your day will begin shopping like a chef with Kathryn Joel at the City Market Downtown, then back to Get Cooking to meet Doreen who will expertly guide you through a selection of delectable seasonal recipes whilst exploring a range of challenging techniques and ingredients. We'll start with brunch, and finish with a 3-course evening meal, with wine pairings throughout. This 9 hour master class will immerse you in the apprentice chef’s journey to culinary excellence teaching a full arsenal of culinary skills.

Please note that we our Cook Like a MasterChef class is offered quarterly, and is designed to incorporate seasonal ingredients into a day of advanced culinary instruction. Each quarter the class will explore new techniques.

The Thanksgiving Table. With Kathryn Joel & Doreen Prei

Join Doreen and Kathryn for this special menu class designed to get you entertaining your Thanksgiving crowd in style. We'll be taking your traditional turkey and breaking it down to add some sophistication to your holiday table. We'll show you how to butcher your bird into breasts and legs, then we'll cook it three ways. We'll be making a delicious home smoked haddock and corn chowder to start your meal off right, served with our sweet potato biscuits. And for sides for that turkey we'll be focused on local, preparing a selection of dishes celebrating our Alberta harvest. And dessert? What other than pumpkin pie, of course, made with a roasted sugar pumpkin purée.

GET COOKING IS MOVING

This summer Get Cooking is moving it's kitchen from Kathryn's Riverbend home to a brand new commercial space at MacEwan University downtown. We expect to be open for business from mid-August and a brand new schedule of Fall classes and events will be online and available for booking by the end of July 2014.
